Chai Spiced Cinnamon Rolls

Chai Spiced Cinnamon Buns // www.scarletscorchdroppers.com

  Soft, tender, and sticky rolls, packed with cinnamon, cardamom and ginger - all the delicious flavours of chai. This Christmas morning we woke up in the desert, in the farthest flung corner of western Rajasthan. The sky was cloudless, the air bright and crisp. Morning dew had settled over the blankets, the only thing separating us and our camp on the sand from the biting cold of the night. With the moon still clear in the sky, and the sun not yet up, the only sounds were the occasional ...

Povitica Bread with Coconut & Almond Swirls

coconut-and-almond-povitica-bread-5-www-scarletscorchdroppers-com

A delicious swirled povitica bread from Eastern Europe, filled with sweet coconut and almond filing, and finished with a drizzle of icing. With its crunchy sugary crust and stunning swirls, this gorgeous enriched bread is one defiantly worth taking time to try.  You may have noticed over the past couple of months, but I'm trying to branch out a little bit with my breads. Try new techniques, extend my bread repertoire. Most importantly I'm trying to understand bread. Trying to find out what ...

Easter Hot Cross Buns {A Paul Hollywood Recipe}

Hot Cross Buns :: www.scarletscorchdroppers.com

  Deliciously soft and tender Hot Cross Buns. Spiced and fruity, these are a must bake for Easter!  Its cold and rainy out there this morning, and it almost doesn't seem right to be bringing you a Spring recipe like these Hot Cross Buns. I'm feeling very bright and Spring-like myself today though, and willing the grey clouds and damp miserable air to disappear. Come 5 o'clock tonight I'm downing tools and whizzing straight to the airport. I'm jumping on a plane up to Edinburgh to see my very ...

Nutella Chocolate Babka

A tender buttery bread, twisted with gooey Nutella, dark chocolate and crunchy hazelnuts. A delicious weekend bake, and the perfect accompaniment to your Sunday morning coffee.  Since Christmas I've been trying to avoid eating to much bread. Partly because we lived off bread and instant noodles the last month or so of our travels, partly because I feel better when I don't eat them. I did a couple of whole30s last year, and as soon as I went back to eating bread and pasta and other stodgy carbs I ...

Cheddar, Red Onion and Rosemary Soda Bread

cheddar-red-onion-and-cheddar-soda-bread-www-scarletscorchdroppers-com

A quick and delicious weeknight bread. Flavoured with sharp mature cheddar, fresh rosemary and red onion; a perfect accompaniment to hearty stews and warming soups.    There's nothing quite like coming home on a dark chilly night to a kitchen filled with the smell of freshly baked bread. Sitting down, taking off heavy winter coats, or soggy rain clothes, and settling in for the evening. Tucking into a hearty bowl of rich, savoury stew, or a soothing bowl of warming soup. Warming your cold ...

Honey and Sunflower Seed Rolls

Is it just me, or does this year seem to be speeding up? The past few weeks seem to have flown by. How on earth is it already November? I'm very excited to be bringing some Christmas recipes to you very soon (I'm trying to hold off just a little bit longer to make it just a little more acceptable...), but I can't believe we're rapidly heading towards the final parts of our trip. Tonight we catch a sleeper train from the charming little walled town of Pingyao, to Beijing, our last stop in China ...

Soda Bread

Hello from China! We're in Shangri-La at the moment, up in the mountains near the Tibetan border. Its incredibly beautiful, but absolutely freezing. I'm wearing 7 layers of clothes, and my fingers are still freezing as I type. I don't know how i'm going to cope when we hit Mongolia and Russia! There’s one thing we really miss when we’re travelling this part of the world, and that’s good bread. Back in Hong Kong we did ok. In general the bread is sweet and soft, but in the expat populated areas ...

Nutella and Chocolate Chip Rolls

img_5137.jpg

Last week I promised you a shiny new Nutella recipe, and here it is - Nutella and Chocolate Chip Rolls. Soft, tender sweet bread, studded with chocolate chips, and swirled around a Nutella, chocolate chip and hazelnut filling. I think you're going to love this one! This is a perfect weekend recipe, make your dough, go back to bed with a cup of tea and a good book while the rolls rise, and have them ready to eat warm for a delicious weekend brunch.  I made them this Saturday morning, nibbled on ...

Crumpets

Oh what a week its been, sadly not a good one. We're still waiting for the electricity to be fixed (I know, I know I keep going on about this but its driving me mad!) so all the floors and walls are wet. Without being able to turn in the air conditioning on, the floor is permanently damp. We mop it dry, and minutes later the humidity settles again and we're slipping around again. To make things worse, I've come down with a nasty virus this week, and spent most of it lying on the sofa, everything ...

Apricot and Cardamom Hot Cross Buns

img_4179.jpg

Two days into my time back in England and the English spring time hasn't let me down at all. The skies are blue, the sun is warm. Everywhere is just so green. So many shades of green I haven't seen for a long time. Beautiful bright greens, fresh buds swollen and ready to burst with delicate leaves, translucent in the sunlight like stained glass windows. I'd forgot just how beautiful blossom is, exploding pink and white over trees, petals littering the ground like confetti. A few yellow daffodils ...
