My top recipes of 2017

My top recipes of 2017 – the recipes most loved on my blog over the past year!

With 2017 almost at an end, its time to take a look back on the past year. Its been a busy year for us. We began the year on holiday in Kuala Lumpur, 4 months into our first year of married life. We were living in Hong Kong by the sea, both of us were teaching full time and tutoring most evenings. At the end of the year we’re back in the UK, 4 months into life with our little girl as a family of three. Its been a year of big changes to say the least!

With all these changes (and the sleepless nights involved in having a new born!), I haven’t been able to commit to blogging or baking as much as I would have liked. As ever though, I’m hopeful for the new year! If you’ve got any suggestions or requests for the type of recipes you want to see do let me know.

These are the recipes that have had the most views on my blog in 2017!

10. Terry’s Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake

At number 10 is my Terry’s Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake from back in August. I’m not surprised this is a popular recipe, as everything Terry’s Chocolate Orange always goes down very well! This loaf cake is an easy recipe and is packed with chunks of chocolate orange, and topped with a thick layer of melted Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Its perfect cut into thick slices and enjoyed with a cup of tea!

9. Terry’s Chocolate Orange Millionaire’s Shortbread

Another Terry’s Chocolate Orange recipe at number 9! I was so happy with how these Terry’s Chocolate Orange Millionaire’s Shortbreads turned out. The little bit of orange zest in the shortbread really adds to the flavour. The segments of chocolate orange sat on the thick layer of white and milk swirled chocolate are just so tempting, too!

8. Salted Caramel and Brownie Layer Cake

This Salted Caramel and Brownie Layer Cake is a recipe from way back in 2015, and its still one of my favourite ever layer cakes. I get lots of messages from people telling me they’ve made it for birthdays and celebrations, and its one of my most pinned recipes on Pinterest. I love the drizzle of salted caramel over the rich chocolate brownies!

7. Chocolate Mint Aero Cake

The 7th most popular recipe of 2017 is my Chocolate Mint Aero Cake. Its a really simple but effective cake. The buttercream contained actual mint aero bars, and is made by whizzing it all up in the food processor. Today I’m actually baking cupcakes based on this recipe. Hopefully to bring them to you sometime in January!

6. Kinder Bueno Cheesecake

Next is my Kinder Bueno Cheesecake. A no bake cheesecake recipe filled with chunks of Kinder chocolate, and topped with Kinder Bueno. This was one of my husband’s favourites this year, and I’m a big fan of Kinder Bueno so I love it too!

5. Cadbury Creme Egg Scotch Eggs

The fifth most popular recipe on my blog this year has been my Cadbury Creme Egg Scotch Eggs. Creme Eggs are covered in a chocolate cake and creme cheese mixture – a bit like a giant cake pop! They are then rolled in biscuit crumbs to give them that scotch egg look. They taste like a gooey chocolate brownie filled with a whole Cadbury Creme Egg – delicious!

4. No Bake Terry’s Chocolate Orange Cheesecake

Number 4 is another cheesecake, and another Terry’s Chocolate Orange recipe! My Terry’s Chocolate Orange Cheesecake. Its a smooth creamy no bake cheesecake, made with melted Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Perfect if you’ve got a few Christmas Terry’s Chocolate Oranges you need to use up!

3. Hong Kong Style Coconut Tarts

I was quite surprised to find these Hong Kong Style Coconut Tarts at number 3. My most popular recipes all usually have something to do with chocolate! However they are very deserving of their popularity! These little coconut tarts, a staple of any Hong Kong bakery, are light and delicious. They always remind me of my Hong Kong home!

2. Cadbury Creme Egg Brownies

Cadbury Creme Egg Brownies are hugely popular every year on my blog, especially around Easter. Its a recipe thats been shared over five hundred thousand times on Facebook – a mind boggling statistic!

1. Ferrero Rocher Cupcakes with Nutella Buttercream

Finally the most viewed recipe on my blog this year has been these Ferrero Rocher Cupcakes with my favourite Nutella Buttercream! These photos are from my early blogging days, and if I’d have known how popular these would have been I’d have probably tried to get some better shots. The cupcakes themselves are absolutely delicious though – chocolate cupcakes filled with a whole Fererro Rocher, and covered in Nutella buttercream and crushed hazelnuts. Very, very hard to resist!

So that’s it – the most popular recipes on my blog this year. I wonder what will be popular in 2018!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas and festive period, and I wish you all the very, very best for 2018.

Happy New Year!
